And so it came to pass that Jay had decided to act as intermediary between a group he knew all to well, and liked all too little, and a man he had never met. The Hutts and the Blue Star Pirates did not like each other. However, as great players in the seedy underbelly of Galactic Crime they had two choices: get along or come to blows. Neither side wanted to wage a war where victory would hold little reward (after all, the Hutts and the Pirates were rarely in direct competition) and so they tolerated each other as best they could.
In the past there had been conflict. The two sides had waged a costly war for several months until an uneasy truce was agreed. The conflict was over shipping rights in the Arkanis sector, an issue which still remained somewhat unresolved. However, the cost of the war, and the lack of gain, or even the opportunity of gain, on either side had tutored both powers in the art of pragmatic if not cordial mutual tolerance.
But BSP - Hutt relations were always on a knife edge. There was always a raid somewhere, or an assassination of a local business figure, or other such event which raised the heckles of one side or another.
Thus it was a big risk for Jay to put his reputation on the line for a person he did not know. If the fellow offended the Hutts then all hell could well break loose in BSP - Hutt relations. The one thing Jay knew though, was that the Hutts were as worried as anyone about the possibilities of further Imperial expansion, and they wanted this meeting almost as much as the Rebellion.
"He's here".
Jay looked up to see Nikki Valla, his readheaded helmswoman, standing as seductively as she could manage in the bulkhead door. She was a pretty little thing, but Jay had known her since she was just 16, and try as she might he could only ever see her as the little girl they rescued from a Ryloth pleasure house five years ago.
"Send him in" Jay said. The staryacht was small, but luxuriously decorated. Jay sat comfortably in the living quarters, browsing a datapad of recent Hutt political intelligence, and waited for his guest.
