"I'm getting very bored of you Gkakri. You don't want me to get bored of you. I promise you that. Now, to whom did you sell those modified blasters?"
It was a dangerous business being one of the galaxy's more infamous sorts of reprobate. Forget having lots of enemies and few friends, there were th numerous bounties, the general hatred of legitimate governments, not to mention the hazardous nature of the job itself. Sometimes, while swigging booze and letching at pretty girls it was easy for a pirate to forget quite how many sentients had the knives out for you.
And that is exactly what had happened to Captain Nick Straven.
It was neither immediately obvious to the Cutthroats who had taken their leader, or why. After all, it wasn't as though they could narrow it down to a list of potential suspects; not a manageable list anyway. It could, in short, have been anyone. The security holovids they acquired after the event (by various means- not all of them legal) seemed to give no clues either, but when the BSP inspected them something did become clear: the use of a rare weapons modification. A very distinctive modification that only one person in the galaxy sold, and it just so happened that Jay Mertaal knew who.
"Ok ok, I'll tell you" the Dressellian squealled.
"That's a good choice Gkakri"
"A bad bunch- mercenaries I think... I don't know much about them".
"You'd better, for your sake"
"Some of them are force users I think... or something like that... They're serious people. They'll kill me for telling you"
"Yeah, but I'm first in line aren't I? A. Name."
"The Kanroth. They're called the Kanroth. Now please would you just..."
"Never heard of them. I think you're making this up"
"No no! I'm not! The Kanroth. Their leader.. or at least the person I deal with is called Xander Hagen"
"And where do I find them?"
"You can't"
"Wrong answer"
"W...Wait! Wait! I mean, they're in hiding, but they're in the Kathol Outback someplace... an uncharted world probably, but I delivered the goods to Kane Blandt on Mangrav IV".
"Is that right?" Jay said, a glimmer of recognition lighting up his eyes for a second or two".
Now though, it seemed there was some other news. An ensign came scuttling in and gave Norongachi a datapad with a message from Mertaal. It simply read:
>Have a lead on Straven. Meet me at the following co-ordinates, borders of the Kathol Outback, soon as possible.
Norongachi frowned at the message at first, and then smiled. It was almost too soon to have come up with anything. Jay didn't mess around. He gave the order to prepare a ship for him. He would have to go alone- Straven himself wouldn't authorise risking all that loot for the sake of one man. Norongachi and Mertaal would do this themselves, if it could be done at all.
