*sigh* Why didn't they just make it live action? They can afford it. The animated stuff is just sad. They could have made sets for the series in the
process or at least digital sets.
Movie? I was under the impression it was a TV series, same as the other project they're working on. And that, to my recollection, is live action,
Thri.
"What sweet irony; to use my foe's weapons against them."
There is actually an animated movie coming out called the Clone Wars. Never seen the other animated stuff, but this will probably be quite good if GL can keep
himself from directing it.
But, what's this? Anakin with a padawan? Seems a bit iffy to me; the council didn't seem to trust him all that much in the movies and books, so surely
they wouldn't have given him an impressionable young padawan to mould in his own image. Then again, when do these things ever make sense?
"What sweet irony; to use my foe's weapons against them."
There is still a TV series, this movie is just like the first three episodes back to back pretty much. Just for publicity I guess. I don't mind the
concept, I'm quite a fan of the CGI stuff... (I liked the latest TMNT) but then again, I didn't mind the prequels either, In fact I put ROTS up there
with ESB as my favorites.
So some of you may not care for my opinions... Haha.
Thri. I think the reason it hasn't been done in live action, is merely because GL wanted to try something different. I think after doing six live action
movies, he's entitled to have a shot at other mediums. And I really like the idea of expanding the universe even more... The one thing I remember after
seeing ROTS was a bit of disappointment that it would potentially be the last SW movie. With this animated Movie/TV Series, as well as the Live Action series,
it will keep Star Wars alive and fresh, which I think can be nothing but a good thing.
I'm not sure about the animated one, but I think Lucas stated that he would oversee the first season or so of the live action series, then hand it over to
someone else to continue... Might also be the case with the animated series, so I guess that should make you feel at ease about who is running the show, if
only slightly.
As for Anakin having a padawan... I think that the way I dealt with these kind of changes that most people would look at with skepticism, really helped me with
enjoying the prequels... In stead of pulling them apart and questioning them, I just sat back, accepted what was there, and ultimately enjoyed the movies. And
yes, I even did this with Jar Jar... lol. He was just there, I never found him overly annoying, or in the way, or
pointless... He was just part of the story, and part of the amazing universe that is Star Wars, he wasn't exactly a major character, so he didn't
detract from anything at all.
Where was I? Oh yeah. Anakin's apprentice, whether she turns out to be a good or bad thing in the eyes of most star wars fans, will just be another part of
the universe for me.
Kinda, rambled on a bit there. but you get the idea.
Hey, totally agree on the ROTS point. And I usually try and ignore the continuity errors, no matter how glaring they seem. It's just... well, y'know...
I'm starting to get a tiny bit overwhelmed by the number of Anakin/Vader apprentices that are suddenly pouring through the woodwork.
"What sweet irony; to use my foe's weapons against them."
I haft to agree with you on that Kal, anakin with a padawan? In the other clonewars series he never had one so how could he have one now? It is rather iffy.
Maybe Anakin having a padawan is the reason the Jedi Council don't think he is ready to be a masterin EP3! Maybe he leads him or her astray or something. I
think it could be intresting. The trailer looks mint!
It's confirmed as a female, Lore. Same species as Shaak Ti, I believe.
And yes, I suppose I can see some logic in what you say. However, judging by the nature of the show - let's face it, it is intended for a younger audience
- we are unlikely to see such a major character killed off (The previous Clone Wars cartoon, for example, didn't appear to kill any major characters what
so ever), so she'll likely go on to become a Jedi in her own right by the end of it.
If I'm correct in that hypothesis, then it will just make the council's decision seem a little less
understandable.
"What sweet irony; to use my foe's weapons against them."
And they wonder why I just read Timothy Zahn's books and ignore the rest. Gets old with this "Lets squeeze out all the money we can." I mean
it's not like they could make an entire series or two about young Boba Fett and his crew consisting of: a beautiful ewok maiden, a giant green gungan, a
small mouse bot, and Shamuu.
The council's decision to keep him from being a master was plainly stated in ROTS. He was entirely too close to Palpatine, who they already did not trust.
Plus the fact that Plap forced the Jedi to allow him to sit on the councilhence his whole big ordeal about understanding why he was not promoted to
master.......c'mon guys pay attention when ya watch the movies
but anyway, I don't see the whole anikin's apprentice thing working out very well, unless it's just a padawan fighting under his command during the
war, which I'd imagine isn't too far fetched for him to even have several since he and Obi Wan were proven soldiers.
I must admit, I am quite looking forward to seeing this little thing. Now just to state, I was never fond of the ol' cartoon Clone Wars series as
it was a tad childish and I hated the animation style. Yet, I still watched it and acknowledge that it filled out the Clone Wars setting, even if somewhat
dubiously.
Now I wait for this, as this (and the rest of the CG series) as it will prove to be amusing filler till the live action. At
least here, firstly the animation style seems better put towards CG than cartoon production, so that is one of the points I like here.
Secondly, this will deal with the Hutts/Jabba during the Wars, something barely touched in the other media, so it will hopefully add some more depth to this
time.
Thirdly, from the shots shown, it seems this isn't a complete 'cake walk' (Look, I'm using hip and trendy phrases!) adventure that the Republic
has to contend with as seen in the cartoon series.
Finally, well, call me a dark ol' sod, but I think that this wee Jedi lass is not going to have a nice ending (maybe not death, but still not good), just
by the darker tones it seems to have.
I believe I heard somewhere that the reason the Jedi Council gave Anakin Skywalker a padawan was as a last ditch effort to give him something to focus on
instead of being purely self-obsessed, try to tie him down to some responsibilty as it where and slow down his decent into darkness.
As for the animated Clone Wars movie itself, I think it is a precursor to an animated Clone Wars TV series coming later (seperate to the live action TV
series), its kind of like the first few episodes meshed together as a movie then released in cinemas or something like that.
As for the animation style, I would have preferred something a little less cartoony but it still looks like good fun and the plot seems interesting
enough.
I just saw this in the local cinema, and I was very much impressed.
A great deal of the film is action, but there is still a very good and a very strong plot to it. This I think will be a great addition to the clone wars mythos
of the EU, and I found the experience very much on par with the movies.
It shows the clone wars to be 'wars', not merely a place for Jedi and clones to walk about without problems. I found the dialogue between the main
characters and throw away ones to be gold, and the jokes in the movie to be well placed compared to the ones of the 'new' trilogy.
Overall, I found this an impressive addition to Clone War period of EU, the graphics were splendid, and the story both well paced and engrossing. If anything
compared to the cartoon series, I am now very much awaiting the rest of this new CG series.
Despite my earlier opinion which you may thing would make me biased anyway, I strongly recommend the viewing of this.
Hmm, I'll take your word for it. I do like that it shows the war being a war. Though, I would rather see a followup series set in the Civil War era and not
the clone. Feels bogged down with so much during this period. Could really do a Firefly series set between ANH and ESB, easily.
I got around to watching this last week. Overall I liked it. It was entertaining and it felt like a Star Wars movie. I too am interested in how the CG TV
series will follow this, it certainly leaves plenty of room for a larger and more complex story. It'll also be interesting to see if they try to tie it in
with the old Clone Wars animated series which I still believe was rather good.
