The speeder that Vladimir had rented had been tuned in a way that traded speed for stealth. And right now, this was a big problem. He saw the tracker on his
datapad slow down and slowly move. Then it stopped, but then started again at a sprint-like pace. Then it stopped again. It hadn't moved for about three
minutes now.
Because of the setting sun, Achlohr, a mercenary on the job, was a black shadow in the sky. If Jasra was discovered snooping around and killed, then that meant that the Shadow Adept was going to be coming in hot. He took his scoped A-280k assault rife and DF-D1 shotgun and strapped them to his back. He made sure that his usual arsenal of vibroshivs and twin DL-22 pistols were in place. Satisfied that he had enough weaponry to keep him alive, Achlohr kept his head low and pushed the repulsor engines to maximum capacity.
In a few minutes, Vladimir was close to where the tracker said Jasra was. He dropped altitude so that he was riding no more than half a meter above the ground. He also reached back and grabbed his assault rife. The Shadow Adept aimed for a cluster of bushes, and was surprised that he was not taking fire. Was there an ambush waiting?
It wasn't exactly a crash landing, but it wasn't gentile either. Vladimir attempted to jump from the speeder as he set it down, but the momentum threw him into the bushes. He struggled to free himself from the claws of the branches when his data pad beeped. Apparently, Vladimir was directly over Jasra.
Or at least, her armor. That was where he planted the small tracking device. The light combat armor was neatly folded, so she did not go anywhere in a hurry. She was probably even planning to come back. However, who in the right mind would try to take down a crime lord without some sort of armor?
'The time for questions is later,' he told himself. Right now he needed to get accustomed to his surroundings. Tonight, he was going to see combat, and he would need to know what kind of environment he would be fighting in.
